Tuesday Tutorial: Trick to Treat Shoes
By Candie Cooper – To see more from
Candie check out her blog Candie Cooper’s Journal

These fun shoes are ready to tip toe
through the neighborhood for trick or treating!

You will need: Mod Podge, shoes with
smooth surface, tiny die cuts, scissors, paint brush and tissue paper.

Mod Podge two layers of tissue paper to
the toe of the shoe. By the way, these shoes were only $5 at the dollar store!

Add the tiny die cuts however you like
with Mod Podge, overlapping and such. Words, gems and glitter would also be fun
to use.

I think my love for Tim Burton was
coming out while making them. I love all the patterns and whimsical spookiness.

As I look at this picture, trick or treat, smell my (Mod Podged) feet,
give me something good to eat, quickly popped into my mind. Have
fun!

Monday Funday: Trick or Treat Boxes
By Candie Cooper – To see
more crafts from Candie visit her blog Candie Cooper’s Journal
These little skeletons look like they are up to some tricks but inside they're
all treats!

Folk Art paints love any paper mache' surface
like these skeleton boxes. You'll need your favorite colors plus white, Extreme
Glitter in Hologram, paintbrushes and a permanent marker.

Paint the bottom half of the box in the
desired colors.

Paint the faces with Ivory White and
leave to dry. Add a sparkly layer with Extreme Glitter. Use a permanent marker
on the edge to add dashes, stripes, or dots.

Tissue paper was Mod Podged on the
inside and left to dry. Have you seen the MP formula sampler pack? Awesome for
beginners and small projects like votives, jewelry and more!

I found these die cut eyeballs and
couldn't resist adding them to the skulls. Suddenly they come to life! Funny,
huh?

Baker's twine bows were added with hot
glue. Fill them up with sweet or silly treats for your friends this Halloween!

Monday Funday: Spooky Birdhouses
By Candie Cooper - To see more crafts from Candie check out her blog, Candie Cooper's Journal

Fall is here, the birds have flown
south, and the rats and spiders have taken over! Decorate plain birdhouses with
different Plaid products to get spooky houses like these. Here's how!

Paint your houses in whatever Halloween
Folk Art colors you like. Add coats of Extreme Glitter for a bit of sparkle---I
used Peridot over Calypso Sky Folk Art paint. For the green house, tiny sequins
were sprinkled over a coat of Mod Podge Outdoor. A piece of black net was cut
to lay over the rooftop, dipped in Stiffy and laid over the top to dry as well.
Stiffy makes any fabric surface rigid. Flat back crystals and
embellishments were added with Mod Podge too.

Gallery Glass isn't just for
glass! Use it to create a shiny slimy look on wood too as seen just above the
spider. Ribbon was hot glued to the top in a loopy fashion to add a whimsical
touch.

Little rats from the Dollar Store have
been painted with Silver Outdoor Folk Art paint. You can glue them to the house
with multi-purpose adhesive or let them scatter about. You can paint a spider
web on the front or use a permanent marker to draw one.

Check out Plaid Crafts YouTube channel
to see more Halloween ideas including the techniques used on these birdhouses. These
houses are not completely outdoor proof so I'll be bringing the critters inside
to set in my kitchen window. Happy crafting!

Monday Funday: Candy Corn Charm Bracelet
By Candie Cooper - To see more crafts created by Candie check out her blog, Candie Cooper's Journal
I've got candy corn on the brain.
Anyone else? These beads and charms from Plaid are good enough to eat
too.

You can find the Halloween
Holiday Glitz line only at Joann Fabrics. Charms, chain, beads and more! Pick
your favorite charms and beads, black chain and a large silver chain and clasp. You'll also need some jump rings, head pins, a few random beads, and a
basic jewelry pliers set.

Cut the silver chain to fit your wrist.
Secure the two chains together at the end with a jump ring. Weave
the black chain in and out of the silver chain. Secure the opposite ends with
another jump ring and check the fit again. Make adjustments if needed
before trimming the black chain.

Make some beaded charms by
stringing beads on head pins and finishing with a loop. Add a clasp to
the jump rings that are holding the chains at both ends.

Lay out the charms along the
length of the bracelet and attach them with heavy silver jump rings.

The vintage Halloween image charms are
so sweet and they come in pendant sizes too.

October 31st is right around the
corner. You can whip this bracelet up in an hour (or maybe less if
you're a seasoned jewelry maker). How's that for a treat?!

Teaching Thursday: Slitherin' Friends
By Candie Cooper (See more from Candie on her blog, Candie Cooper's Journal)
With the weather getting chilly, these
little guys are looking for a place to hide out! How about on your craft
table under the work lamp?

I've looked at these reptile surfaces a
thousand times in the wood section of the craft store. The cracks and
crevices kept me away (and they were lizards and snakes after all). But!
I know how much fun little boys and girls would have painting these
creatures so I took stab (with a paint brush). Pick your favorite Apple
Barrel and Folk Art paint colors and base coat, keeping a little water on your
brush so the color seeps into the cracks.

Use a sponge to add a textured second
color of green to the top or....

head outdoors to experiment painting
with an old toothbrush. I flicked, brushed and splotched paint onto the
lizard. It was messy, but so fun! Get really crazy and use a few
colors.

The lizard came with a faux leather
back piece, but I replaced it with colorful tie dyed felt. You can add
more painted details and then outline them with a permanent marker so they show
up.

The snake got more painted stripes and
dots with a felt tongue. Thick craft glue was used to hold the felt
embellishments. Snakes usually give me the "willies," but not
this one! He's too cute.

Friends forever. I ended up
loving this craft so much. Now, I've got my sights set on the plain
wooden car surfaces with moving parts. Stay tuned.
*If you want your creatures to be shiny, use a spray varnish before adding felt
embellishments.
