Web Wednesday : Going Green Crafts For Kids
It is very important to be environmentally friendly, and aware of how we can help preserve our planet. As adults its our job to teach kids at a young age the importance of being green. One great way to introduce a earth conscious lesson, is to make it apart of a craft. Take this easy to make turtle project. This was made from recycled grocery containers. We all have these lying around somewhere. This turtle is all the way green, and a great summertime project for the kids. To learn step-by-step on how to make this friendly turtle click here. Monday Funday: Create This Cute Peace Pouch
By: Candie Cooper (Check out more from Candie on her blog, Candie's Journal)
I'm crafting on the road this week, kids! We are filming a new season of Hands On Crafts for Kids so I brought some things to work on in the hotel after the shoot. This pouch is one of them. The clerk greeted me tonight and then looked down at my clear box of paint and said, "is that paint"?!?!? I said, "Maybe"! (with a really big grin) and cruised on up to my room. This is a really easy project to create wherever you are! You'll need a canvas pouch, felt iron on transfer, sponge, your favorite colors of FOLKART FABRIC PAINT, and some scissors. Cut the sponge into a 1.25" square. It never hurts to put a piece of paper inside the pouch so it doesn't bleed through to the back. Lay down some newsprint (the last thing I wanted to do was to wreck the hotel desk), and put some paint on a plate. Dip the sponge in paint and blot around until it is evenly covered. Stamp the paint in desired pattern on the canvas. Rinse the sponge each time you change colors. Once the pouch is dry, you can iron on the Peace patch. Position the patch where you want it and lay a pressing cloth on top---I used a bandanna. Set your iron to wool and press for 30 seconds (this will scorch your bandanna I found, LOL). Turn over and press again to make sure it's sealed. The package has directions for the iron on also. And then you add a little chicken zipper pull for the lone reason of it-was-too-cute-to-leave-behind at Michael's craft store. He was only $1!
One hour later (I used the hair dryer to speed up the paint drying time), you have the perfect little peace pouch. But, don't stop there! There are tons of cute iron ons in the fashion crafting section of your favorite craft store.
I can't help but sign off with, Peace, Love, and....a chickadee? Ok, let's just leave it at peace and love! That always makes me happy.

Web Wednesday : Learn To Make A Pocket Pouch & Paper Butterflies
Often times it is not uncommon to have a brain freeze when it comes to thinking of new crafts to create. Thankfully the world wide web provides us with so many different outlets, to find new craft projects. I usually make the web the first place I go to for craft inspiration. I love to search other craft sites, and see what catches my eye. There are so many creative and unique crafters out there. The only problem is I tend to find so many new craft projects I want to try out. So many crafts, so little time. In one of my recent web searches I came across these two fun summer themed kids' crafts, that caught my attention. Both I like a lot, because they are colorful and very easy to make.
The first is a pocket pouch. This craft comes from Family Fun. It is a great recycled theme craft that shows you how to turn a pair of empty juice pouches into a simple coin purse. To find out how to make this craft click here. The second project are these easy to make folded butterflies from Plaid. Paper crafts are so versatile, and this one is colorful and fun to make. Tuesday Kids Talk: Throwing A Kids Craft Party
If you are tired of the plain old traditional kids parties, then get creative and be unique. Throw a craft party for the kiddies. Seriously, how many times have you done, or gone to other kids parties with the same themes? A superhero, a princess, and cartoon themes have all been done before. Step outside the box and try something new for a change. A craft themed party is a great way to keep the kids busy, it's fun, and easier then you think to arrange. A craft party theme is also a lot more affordable than other party themes will cost you.
The first thing you will need to do is decide what types of crafts you will create during the party. You can find lots of suggestions online, and even right here on our kids craft blog. Be sure when selecting projects for your party, to keep the ages of the kids attending in mind. You want to make sure that the crafts will be age appropriate. Another important thing to remember is safety. Make sure that all the crafts are kid friendly. And also be mindful of the crafts you decide to create in terms of gender. If you are going to have boys and girls at your party, make sure to have crafts that can appeal to both.
Now on to deciding what crafts to make. I'm sure you will not have all the supplies you will need on hand, so you will have to make a trip to your local craft store. A good idea would be to plan on making several craft projects that can use the same supplies. This can help minimize how much left overs you will have, and cut down on cost on supplies you buy.
They day of the party, before everyone arrives, lay out all your craft supplies and set up designated stations for each project. At each station place some written instructions for each project. The instructions should be easy to read. As the kids begin to arrive, allow them to at first hang out with one another, and then let them begin crafting. Explain to them all the project options, and let them choose what they want to create. While the kids are crafting make sure there is plenty of adult supervision, and be ready to help out if needed.
As the kids finish their projects set up a designated area in the house or outside in the backyard. If time permits, allow the kids to do a show and tell, so they can talk about what they made. Congrats! Your craft party was a hit, and the best part is that everyone gets to leave with a party favor, that they made. No one goes home empty handed, and everyone is happy. Have you ever thrown a kids craft party? If you have done your own craft party we would love to hear from you about it.

Friendly Alligator Keepsake Box
By Sheri RagsdaleNormally when you think about alligators they do not come to mind as one of the friendliest animals, however that is going to change with this adorable and easy kids' craft. This simple to do project will be a hit with kids, and a great way to create some extra storage space for all their little trinkets. A perfect craft for beginners, that will only take about an hour to create. So let's get started.
You will need the following items: Apple Barrel Paints - 20587 Spring Green, 20503 White, 20504 Black, 20513 Bright Yellow, and Stencil Decor - 1533 3/4" spouncer. For supplies: A small triangle wooden box from Michael's Arts and Crafts, 3/4" flat brush, liner brush or black permanent marker, pencil, glue, two-1 1/4" doll head/knobs, and two-7/8" split wren eggs.
First base coat your wooden box with Spring Green, and allow to dry completely.
Next, paint the eyes and the nose with Spring Green.
Then using a 3/4" spouncer and Bright Yellow, make circles on the wooden balls.
Use the other end of spouncer and the Black paint, to make holes in the nose. Make sure to do this on the larger end of the split eggs.
Next, using a small round brush make the Black eyes of the alligator.
Glue the eyes and nose in place.
Now you are almost finished. Use a pencil to draw the teeth of the alligator.
To finish up, fill in the teeth with the White paint.
Hooray you are all done, and now the proud owner of an adorable and friendly alligator. Enjoy!

Quick & Easy Paper Vases

It’s amazing that all around us are everyday objects… some
beautiful, some utilitarian and some quietly hiding behind their humble
functions. It is there that out of nothing, something beautiful becomes. TOILET
PAPER ROLLS! Yes, toilet paper rolls can be beautiful, and Plaid Designer, Julie
Lewis found one surprisingly beautiful way to utilize something we throw away
on a daily basis. The color combinations for this project are endless. So hang
on to those rolls and here is all you need to create these clever vases:
Folkart Acrylic Paint – 516 Light Lavender, 524 Calypso Sky,
741 Glazed Carrots, 654 Metallic Amethyst, 651 Metallic Blue Topaz, 663
metallic Bronze
Crackle Medium – 696, 3 toilet paper tubes, 3 small clay pots – 1 ½” x 2”, Glue, Flat brush – ¾”, Artificial flowers
Paint one each of your tubes a metallic color. No prep
needed! Awesome!
Once they dry the fun can really start!

Liberally apply Crackle Medium to your tubes. Rotate them a
bit after applying so you don’t get huge drips. Some drips are fine as they
crackle beautifully! Love the crackle! Let the crackle medium dry and then apply another coat of FolkArt acrylic paint. Liberally apply
strokes lengthwise on the tubes being careful not to overlap. If you do, gently
smooth ridge with paintbrush. You can see it start to crackle right before your
eyes! Yes! It truly is cool and amazing! Apply the corresponding
acrylic color over the metallic base.
Now paint one each of the clay pots in a metallic color and
let dry. Keep the pots turned upside down.

Run a bead of glue around one opening of each tube. Place over pot until it rests on the rim and that is all!
Surprisingly simple…

yet so fun and a cool way to recycle. The color
possibilities are endless! Make some for yourself and for super great gifts.
