Summer Parties

mainimage_baseball.jpg

Whether your little one has a birthday during the summer, or if you just want an opportunity to gather your child's friends, summer is a great time to host a party.  Don't forget to let your children help with preparations like selecting a theme and preparing food - and consider doing craft projects at the party. Kid-made crafts make great take-a-ways and are a cool way to keep kids entertained while gaining a new skill.

Here are a few summer party ideas:

Ballerina "Dance Under the Stars" Party

Get Started with Summer Crafting

campcrafts.gif

Get Started with Summer Crafting! Here's some tips and ideas to getting your summer crafting off to a good start!

  1. Make sure you are stocked up on supplies! See this post.
  2. Plan weekly theme-based crafts related to your children’s interests. For smaller children, you may want to find simple themes like colors, shapes and letters. For older children, you can create craft units on nature, plants or local resources. Another idea is coming up with projects based on  summer plans you may have  like vacation or family reunion. Making scrapbooks, family trees, and destination maps are all ways to engage your children in arts and crafts.
  3. Create projects that use different mediums. You can try acrylic paints, fabric paints, paper crafting, decoupage and other mediums. Even try mimicking styles of great artists or art movements.
  4. Leave room for spontaneity.
  5. Incorporate nature and outdoors into your craft plans.
