Teaching Thursdays: Photo Transfer Holiday Project for Pets

Personalized
ornaments are treasured for years. Normally on specialized ornaments it common
to find pictures of kids and other family members, but don’t forget your four
legged family members. Include them on an ornament this year. Chris Myer
Williams designed this holiday photo transfer project. With Mod Podge Photo
Transfer Medium and photocopies, you can capture several special moments that
can be enjoyed for years to come! To make this project for your pet, see all
the materials below along with the instructions.
PLAID Supplies
·
Mod Podge ® Gloss, 8
oz.
·
Mod Podge ® Photo
Transfer Medium, 2 oz.
Other Supplies
4” Glass ball ornament
Assorted dog themed scrapbook papers
Photocopies of pet photograph
Ribbon
Twine
Brush basin or container for water
Scissors
Small flat brush
Paper towels
Hot glue
Waxed paper
1 1” Button
Instructions
1. Cut dog themed scrapbook paper into
½” strips.
2. Working with one strip at a time, moisten strip with water. Apply Mod
Podge to backside of strip and apply to glass ornament wrapping around
shape. Allow to dry. Continue adding strips leaving small margins
of glass to show. If desired, cut heart shapes from additional scrapbook
paper and apply over Mod Podged’ strips. Allow to dry.
3. To create a photo transfer decal: Place your photo copy on a sheet of
waxed paper. Apply a generous amount of Photo Transfer Medium to front of
photo copy and allow to dry for 24 hours.
4. Flip the photo transfer over and begin removing the layers of paper by
moistening the back and lightly rubbing over the backside of the photo
copy. Continue removing paper until you no long see white paper
fibers. Allow to dry. You now have a decal which can be applied to
the front of the Mod Podged’ glass ornament.
5. Embellish with twisted twine which is hot glued around the photo transfer
decal.
6. Add Ribbon and twine bows and a button to the ornament top!
7. Enjoy on your tree or give to loved ones!

Web Wednesday: Mod Podge Gingerbread Man Wreath
Do your kids love gingerbread
men? If so they are going to love this adorable craft project. Have them get in
the spirit of the holidays by creating this Mod Podge Gingerbread Man Wreath.
We discovered this easy to make project on the blog Radmegan. Megan used
several Plaid products to design this wreath including Mod Podge and FolkArt
paints. Since this project has a few steps to it, it is perfect for a family to
create together. Maybe this weekend you can make some gingerbread cookies and
this gingerbread man wreath. To learn how Megan made this project click here.

Tuesday Tutorial: Retro Glitter Ornaments

Candie Cooper’s Journal

Sleigh bells are ringing and the
glitter is flying on my worktable! I love, love, love to make Christmas
ornaments. This summer I purchased huge jars of retro chunky glitter from
a florist that was closing up shop. I've waited 6 months to dust this
stuff over some Mod Podge and the day is finally here.

Base coat a wood ornament of your
choice in desired paint color--I like to use the same color of glitter as paint
so everything blends together. Leave the paint to dry.

Paint a layer of Mod Podge onto the
ornament (I use a pretty thick coat). While the Mod Podge is wet, dust
glitter onto surface. This technique works with fine or chunky glitter. Shake
off ornament and dump remaining glitter back into the jar.

Thread a ribbon through the hole on the
ornament and tie in a knot. Also, you can hot glue
embellishments like these chip board shapes onto the ornament to add a little
zing. Fill the frame with a picture and decorate away!
