Freelance Friday: Scary Silhouette Pumpkin

Can you believe the month of September is halfway over? Gosh time flies, especially when you're crafting. Since Halloween is on the horizon we wanted to give you some inspiration for a great project you can have your kids help create. This weekend try creating this scary silhouette pumpkin. These pumpkins are made with paper mache. Kids and paper mache make for fantastic crafts. It is a very simple technique, and can be done by any level crafter. We found this project over on the blog, The Country Chic Cottage. In addition to paper mache, Angie used Mod Podge in this project. Click here to see how Angie created this project.

Teaching Thursday: Halloween Googly Eyes Picture Frame

Halloween crafting is perfect for kids. There are so many funny, creative, and kid friendly spooky projects to create. Trenice Bishop designed this googly eye frame. It is so simple, a perfect project for beginners that will only take up to an hour and a half to complete. After you complete this project it makes a great place to put a photo of your kids dressed up in their Halloween costumes.

Plaid Supplies

Plaid Wood Frame -12880, FolkArt Paint – 503 Yellow Citron, FolkArt Acrylic Paint – 479 Pure Black, FolkArt Acrylic Paint- 901 Wicker White

Additional Supplies

Painter's tape, Wiggly eyes, Craft brushes, Hot glue gun, Craft spray, Water bowl,

Instructions

1.    Paint entire Memory Frame surface with Yellow Citron and let dry.

2.    When dry, use the painter's tape to create the lined pattern.

3.    Paint over tape with Pure Black and allow time to dry.

4.    Remove the tape to reveal the pattern on the frame.

5.    Spray with a clear craft spray and let dry. (Use fats drying spray to cut drying time.)

6.    Arrange the wiggly eyes on the frame to create the scary face.

7.    Use the hot glue gun to secure the wiggly eyes to the frame.

8.    Using a liner brush, paint the woo “Boo” just to the side of the mouth of the face.

9.    Add your favorite photo

Project Tip

Use a cotton swab dipped in petroleum when you're ready to glue them down jelly to transfer the wiggly eyes to the frame.

Web Wednesday: Mod-Podge Book Collage

It is never too early to get your kids interested in reading. This is documented nicely in a recent blog post I stumbled upon on the blog, Raising Bean. Mar, a Mom to a newborn baby, created this adorable book collage using Dr. Seuss books and Mod Podge. She happened to have two copies of the same Dr. Seuss book, and decided to use the pages from one to create this collage for her daughter. This book collage was used as decoration inside the walls of her little ones crib. Not only is this project so cute, it is easy to make. What is your favorite Dr. Seuss book? Mine was Green Eggs and Ham. To see how Mar made this simple project click here.
