Interview with Katie of Katie's Nesting Spot

Last week we featured Katies Nesting Spot as the blog of the week. We're honored to have her answer a few questions about crafting and blogging. Be sure to check out her blog here:

What are your favorite projects to do with your children?
My daughter is only two and a half, so we do mainly experience art right now. She loves to paint and could do it every day all day if I'd let her. She also enjoys using stamps with an ink pad, playing in shaving cream on the table, and tear art. Playdoh is also a mainstay activity in our home. She is anxious to get ahold of all my art supplies and likes playing with my scraps. She always wants to know if what I'm doing is for her. I also love to make things for her, like photo scrapbooks that incorporate pictures of her and family members. We're working on a color book right now. Taking pictures of objects around the house that represent each color. I'm going to put them in a photo album scrapbook called, "My Colorful World".

When did you start crafting?
My favorite part of teaching was always the art project tie-ins to learning, so the start of my teaching career is when my passion for art and children's crafts began. Now that I have my own, I can't wait to get into all sorts of fun with her. I began seriously scrapbooking in 2004 after I came back from Hawaii with hundreds of pictures I wanted to organize and share. Scrapbooking is still my primary crafting outlet, but I have just begun learning how to sew and am incorporating more fabric into projects, that's been a lot of fun too.

Interesting fact(s) about you?
I was adopted from Korea, and even though I wasn't carried by my mom I definitely got my crafty side from her!

Favorite craft product(s)?
I love patterned paper, dimensional adhesive, my die cut machine(s) and dies, my scalloped circle punch, ribbon, felt, and of course...Mod Podge! Often my solution to things is to slap on a layer of it!

Favorite types of crafting?
Papercrafting and crafting for and with children

Biggest inspirations?
My Mom who has knitted a bunch of cute baby hats and sweater for my little one, and who also crochets, draws, and used to tole paint as well as my Godmother who knits and cross stitches. She makes wall hangings and pillow fronts that are adorable.

How long have you been blogging?
J
ust a few months, only since the middle of December 2008. I'd been a wanna be blogger for a year previously, but was afraid to put my stuff out there. It's been wonderful how quickly and nicely the blogging community has welcomed me.

When do you have time to craft?
Mainly naptime, in the evening when my husband can watch her, and after the little munchkin is asleep. I also squeeze in a little time when she's busy or having free play. Then I get all my stuff and work on quick little tasks like cutting out shapes or embroidering from the kitchen where I can see her.
