Tuesday Kid's Talk: Race Car Building Blocks from Martha Stewart
Often times it can be a little bit more difficult to find crafts that are targeted towards boys. Our friends over at Brown Paper Packages, made these adorable race car building blocks for her two little ones. This is such a great project to make, and very easy to do. All the materials used were products from the new Martha Stewart craft line, available now at Michaels nationwide. This multi-surface paint line works great on wood, as seen in this project. Want to make this project for your little racers? Click here to learn how.

Plaid Paints are Safe!
With all that has been in the news in recent years about toxic chemicals in our children's toys, we thought we'd let you know that Plaid paints are certified non-toxic. In fact, someone submitted a question to our sister blog, Paint Me Plaid, about it. Here's the post with the details.

My interview with Amy of Mod Podge Rocks

If you haven't already, be sure to check out the Mod-Podge Rocks blog. If you love Mod Podge( and who doesn't?) you'll flip over this blog-it is a one stop information shop for all things decoupage. I recently got to interview, Amy, the crafty lady behind the blog.
What inspired you to start your blog?
It's no secret that I love Mod Podge. When I first started decoupaging on a regular basis, I went onto the internet to find project ideas, tips and tricks. I saw that a lot of people loved Mod Podge, but I spent hours trying to find information and put it all together. My original blog goals were to provide a forum for sharing projects and Mod Podge secrets, as well as a place where I could share what I Mod Podge with the world. It has turned out to be a great community of Mod Podge lovers sharing their projects as well as what they know about the most fabulous craft of decoupage.
What types of things do you make? What do you enjoy doing the most?
I make a little bit of everything, but my favorites are storage as well as home decor items. I am a child at heart, so all of my projects have a "youthful" twist. Plus, you can never have enough storage for children!
What is the most interesting or unusual project you've seen using MP?
The most interesting is definitely a bike helmet. I NEVER would have thought of that myself.
I know you love Halloween... What are your plans for the upcoming holidays?
Halloween is my favorite holiday. It's the craftiest time of year! I will be doing a wide range of projects - I'm starting with decorating items, but I will definitely do something kid-friendly. I completely encourage children to get involved in holiday crafting. Don't be suprised if I create an entire costume from Mod Podge and household items

Interview with Katie of Katie's Nesting Spot
Last week we featured Katies Nesting Spot as the blog of the week. We're honored to have her answer a few questions about crafting and blogging. Be sure to check out her blog here: http://katiesnestingspot.blogspot.com/
What are your favorite projects to do with your children? My daughter is only two and a half, so we do mainly experience art right now. She loves to paint and could do it every day all day if I'd let her. She also enjoys using stamps with an ink pad, playing in shaving cream on the table, and tear art. Playdoh is also a mainstay activity in our home. She is anxious to get ahold of all my art supplies and likes playing with my scraps. She always wants to know if what I'm doing is for her. I also love to make things for her, like photo scrapbooks that incorporate pictures of her and family members. We're working on a color book right now. Taking pictures of objects around the house that represent each color. I'm going to put them in a photo album scrapbook called, "My Colorful World".
When did you start crafting? My favorite part of teaching was always the art project tie-ins to learning, so the start of my teaching career is when my passion for art and children's crafts began. Now that I have my own, I can't wait to get into all sorts of fun with her. I began seriously scrapbooking in 2004 after I came back from Hawaii with hundreds of pictures I wanted to organize and share. Scrapbooking is still my primary crafting outlet, but I have just begun learning how to sew and am incorporating more fabric into projects, that's been a lot of fun too.
Interesting fact(s) about you? I was adopted from Korea, and even though I wasn't carried by my mom I definitely got my crafty side from her!
Favorite craft product(s)? I love patterned paper, dimensional adhesive, my die cut machine(s) and dies, my scalloped circle punch, ribbon, felt, and of course...Mod Podge! Often my solution to things is to slap on a layer of it!
Favorite types of crafting? Papercrafting and crafting for and with children
Biggest inspirations? My Mom who has knitted a bunch of cute baby hats and sweater for my little one, and who also crochets, draws, and used to tole paint as well as my Godmother who knits and cross stitches. She makes wall hangings and pillow fronts that are adorable.
How long have you been blogging? Just a few months, only since the middle of December 2008. I'd been a wanna be blogger for a year previously, but was afraid to put my stuff out there. It's been wonderful how quickly and nicely the blogging community has welcomed me.
When do you have time to craft? Mainly naptime, in the evening when my husband can watch her, and after the little munchkin is asleep. I also squeeze in a little time when she's busy or having free play. Then I get all my stuff and work on quick little tasks like cutting out shapes or embroidering from the kitchen where I can see her.

Blog-of-the-Week

Our first blog of 2009 is a really great one. U-Create - http://kari-youcanmakeit.blogspot.com is full of tutorials for kids and all kinds of crafts. Kari, the blog's creator, has only been blogging for 5 months and has already created a popular and well-followed blog. She looks for trendy craft tutorials and patterns from some of the hottest crafters around. Karia was kind enough to ask us a few questions about her blog and crafting in general:
What are your favorite projects to do with your children? My daughters love to scrapbook with me. It has always been one of my favorite hobbies, but it is so much fun to watch my daughters love it as much as I do.
When did you start crafting? I have been crafting since I was a little girl. My mother used to take me to paint ceramics (is that a craft anymore? haha), taught me how to cross-stitch, and a little bit of sewing. I really started getting into scrapbooking in 1995 when I graduated high school. I am always looking for fun new crafts ideas to try!
What are your favorite products? My Mind's Eye and Basic Grey papers, Michael Miller and Amy Butler fabrics, Glue dots, Cropadile (basically a strong hole punch), Colorbox chalks
What is your favorite type of crafting? Right now I am really into making cards. I have also enjoyed quilting lately. My favorite craft is always changing.
How long have you been blogging? I started UCreate for personal use and I didn't think it would snowball into a high profile craft site. I still can't believe it. I have so much fun meeting so many crafters and seeing all of their fantastic ideas!
When do you have time to craft? Ever since I had four kids I do not craft as much as I used to. My mom, sister and I try to have a girl's night out and bring a craft project to work on at least once a month. I also try to create something at least once a week.
What is your biggest crafty Inspiration? My mother. She has always been a crafter and she's never afraid to try new things and take classes. I want to be just like her.
