Tuesday Tutorial: Kiss Me Blocks

St. Patrick’s Day is a great reason to get your kids crafting. It is a fun and colorful holiday where several different projects can be created. One simple and fun project to make is these Kiss Me Blocks. Kindra Boroff designed these blocks, and boy aren’t they cute. To make these blocks Kindra used Mod Podge and Dimensional Magic. This would make a great classroom project, or afterschool craft. Feel free to change the copy on these blocks. You can include names or initials, or leave them plain with just colorful paper. This is a project perfect for beginners and it will only take at most and hour and a half to complete. Below you will find a full list of supplies and instructions for these blocks. Happy crafting!

Plaid Supplies

Mod Podge-CS11273 Gold Shimmer

CS11215 Mod Podge Dimensional Magic

Other Supplies

3 ½” wood blocks, Green glitter, 5/8” Green satin ribbon, Green and white damask paper, Green pinstripe paper, Green argyle paper, Scissors, Hot glue

Instructions

1.    For each block cut a 3 ½” x 10 ¾” piece of paper. Cut three more 3 ½”x 3 ½” pieces of paper.

2.    Apply a layer of Mod Podge to the wooden block; wrap the long piece of paper around three sides.

3.    Brush the remaining sides with Mod Podge and adhere the 3 ½” squares to the rest of the block. Allow to dry completely. Trim any edges.

4.    Apply a final coat of Mod Podge and let it dry completely. Repeat the same steps for the other blocks.

5.    With the Mod Podge dimensional write the words on the blocks as shown. Immediately sprinkle the glitter onto the words. Gently tap off excess and allow to dry.

6.    Draw three hearts to create a clover and a stem with Mod Podge Dimensional and sprinkle with glitter.

7.    Hot glue the ribbon bow to the block as shown.

8.    Hot glue the thin green ribbon to the edges of the clover block.

Teaching Thursdays: Lucky Clover Pins

By Candie Cooper - See more crafts by Candie on her blog, Candie Cooper's Journal

Avoid being pinched this St. Patty's day with these lucky pins. The shamrocks are made with fingerprints!

Paint a wood disc green and leave to dry. Follow up with a cluster of fingerprints in metallic Folk Art paint.

Outline the fingerprints in gold permanent marker to give it a clover shape. More doodles can be added to the surface as well with markers.

Adhere a gem to the center of the clover with Mod Podge. Apply a coat of Dimensional Magic. Laying the piece on a bed of rice keeps it level while it dries.

Once dry, the Dimensional Magic leaves a shiny seal over the marker and paint.

Glue a pin back onto the wood piece. To make it really jazzy add ribbons and trim!

Teaching Thursdays: Lucky Charms Necklace
By Candie Cooper (See more from Candie on her blog, Candie Cooper's Journal)

St. Patty's Day is coming up! Bring the luck of the Irish your way with a sweet Lucky Charms Necklace. There are lots of lucky charms to pick from in Plaid's Inspired Classics line found at JoAnn Fabrics and select online stores.

I love the acrylic droplet charms for spring. You can use them in jewelry or a pretty window ornament. You will need a few charms and droplets for this necklace, plus a toggle clasp, larger lobster clasps, a chain, ribbon and some jump rings. You will also need a basic jewelry making plier set.

We will use only the loop end of the toggle--be sure to check that the opening in the lobster clasps will fit over the toggle ring. Use a mixture of metals for a fun twist. This necklace has antique brass, bright silver and gunmetal.

Attach a lobster clasp to each charm with a jump ring. This necklace doesn't use the cupcake charm, but it was too sweet to leave out of. It really opens up so you can hide a little note or treasure inside!

The acrylic drops come with a jump ring in tact. You can always change it to whatever color metal you like. Wouldn't these be pretty strung together for a rainbow necklace?!

Hang two dangles from a large jump ring and connect it to a lobster clasp. Repeat as many times as you like!

Run a ribbon through the ends of the chain and tie in a bow to form the necklace. This is a really easy closure method for kids to do.

Attach a jump ring to the end of the toggle and connect to the chain. Clip all the charms to the toggle ring, alternating between acrylic and silver charms.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Crafts for Kids-St. Patty's Day Plaque

Here's a cute idea for St. Patrick's Day. All you really need is a clear surface, napkins and Mod Podge. Decorative napkins are great for decoupage projects and children love all the different surfaces they can be applied to. We used this one as a wall hanging, but you could make coasters, trinkets, frames, boxes and more!
