Freelance Friday: DIY Book Crate

Hooray! It’s Friday. You’ve made it through the workweek, and now you have two whole days to do whatever you want. One of the things you may have to tend to is the cleaning of your home. Weekends are typically the best time to clean, and if you have children this task may be a little bigger than expected.

Don’t let your little ones sit on the sideline watching you clean, make sue you have them help you. One of the best ways to have them help is by making them pick up after themselves. Kids have so many toys, books, and trinkets they collect. Make them become more responsible for keeping these items in order.

If your little one is an avid book reader then you are going to need a place to store their library. Instead of the traditional bookshelf store books in decorative crates. Recently we stumbled across a great creative craft project on the blog, No Time for Flash Cards. Allison created this Mod Podged book crate with her daughter, and it is a great kids craft. This will make the perfect place to have your kids store their books. To learn how to make this project visit the blog here.

Freelance Friday: DIY Dragonfly Wall Art

Trying out new craft techniques can be fun, but often times many shy away from trying something new because of the unknown. They worry what if it gets messed up, or what if it doesn’t come out looking nice? Throw your worries away and just take a chance. This lesson is a good one to remember when crafting with your little ones. They often times can be even braver than us adults, when it comes to trying new things. We found an example of this in this DIY dragonfly wall art project from, First Home Love Life. Christine created this project with help from Martha Stewart glass clings and paints, and her 5 year old. Christine had never used these products before, but jumped at the chance to create something. Her little one even got in on the fun and was able to paint some of the bugs herself. Lesson of the day, don’t be afraid to try something new. Freelance Friday: Shine Sign

Home decor is typically one of those areas you do not have your kids help you with. While they always mean well their taste may not be the same as yours. The idea of having polka dotted walls is not exactly the look you are going for in your dinning room. However if your kids are insistent on helping decorate the home, here is a great project you can help them create. Cheri from I Am Momma Hear Me Roar created this Shine Sign. This is such a simple project to make, even though it looks intricate Cheri made this sign with all supplies she found at her local Walmart. Cheri used Apple Barrel paint, Mod Podge, and strips of fabric. This is a great project to make this weekend with your kids. Let their inner decorator come out, and get creative. Click here to see how Cheri made this sign.

So it's back to school time, and many kids want to start the school year off on the right track. What better way to impress your teacher, then by giving her a small token of appreciation. Check out this very cute teacher's gift craft we found on Giggles Galore. This type of teacher's gift can be used in a variety of ways. It can be used to welcome a new teacher at the beginning of the school year, or it could be given to a teacher as a thank you gift at the end of the year.
