My Pet Rock

LabelTime.gif PrjTime_1.gif    LabelLevel.gif PrjLevel_4.gif

For whatever reason, my boys love collecting rocks. It isn't unusual for me to remove several of them from their pants when I'm about to do laundry, and if I'm not careful they occasionally will make it into the wash. I don't really no why they love rocks so much, but I do think this project is a great activity and a way to transform a picked-up rock into a true 'pet-rock'. This is a great activity for camp crafting, and fun to do with themes as well like animals, aliens and people. Enjoy!

Vacation Bible School

LabelTime.gif PrjTime_1.gif    LabelLevel.gif PrjLevel_4.gif

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend! Here in Georgia, the summer is half way over because most schools start back in early August. July also starts the second round of summer camps as well as vacation bible school. I love this VBS project! The plaque is actually quite small so this would make a great group crafting activity.

You are sure to love this cute little pup- and if you look closely, you'll see he is made with a few egg-shaped Styrofoam pieces and other cut outs. This is just one example of the many animals you can create with foam and Apple Barrel Paint.

Get Started with Summer Crafting

campcrafts.gif

Get Started with Summer Crafting! Here's some tips and ideas to getting your summer crafting off to a good start!

  1. Make sure you are stocked up on supplies! See this post.
  2. Plan weekly theme-based crafts related to your children’s interests. For smaller children, you may want to find simple themes like colors, shapes and letters. For older children, you can create craft units on nature, plants or local resources. Another idea is coming up with projects based on  summer plans you may have  like vacation or family reunion. Making scrapbooks, family trees, and destination maps are all ways to engage your children in arts and crafts.
  3. Create projects that use different mediums. You can try acrylic paints, fabric paints, paper crafting, decoupage and other mediums. Even try mimicking styles of great artists or art movements.
  4. Leave room for spontaneity.
  5. Incorporate nature and outdoors into your craft plans.
